Peter Coates
Drawing on his background in architectural sculpture, carving and lettering, Peter Coates established his own practice in 1994. The studio is based in Ryedale, N.Yorks.
He has produced a wide range of work both in the public realm and by private commission. Frequently designing and making in the context of landscape and the built environment, he has collaborated with other artists, design professionals, writers and poets.
Lettering and text play an integral role in the studio output and there is a particular interest in designing for architectural and functional applications. Commemorative and memorial work is an important aspect of this area, with a receptive and sensitive approach.
