Wooden memorial markers for green or eco burials
When choosing a burial place for yourself or a loved one, a church grave yard or public cemetery does not always appeal. The peaceful fields or woodland of a natural burial ground is the perfect resting place for those who enjoyed the natural world during their life. Being close to nature is comforting and in some way life-affirming, and an eco-burial offers a beautiful place to visit and remember, giving the bereaved a feeling of peace and solace.
Green burial grounds usually require you to have a biodegradable memorial marker, and stone memorials are often not allowed in these spaces. However many letter carvers work in wood as well as stone, and they can be commissioned to design and create a wooden plaque, or larger memorial to reflect and celebrate a life, in a way that is in keeping with the spirit of the burial ground and its natural environment. The experienced letter carvers on our register will also be able to advise you on the choice of wood, the colour, texture and how they will weather and evolve with time.
