"After some drawing and working through my idea I settled on the obvious – being Portland stone staring back at me – I decided to carve the word 'Portland', in a way to honour the place, the stone.
This simple idea met with simple forms interacting: straight lines and curves, and where ever they crossed I would try to carve that meeting of angles, curves and lines, while still trying to be legible, to create a geometric interest of sorts within the letter forms."
