Song of Ages II by Giles Macdonald
Ordovician slate, about 460 million years old
‘This stone celebrates the different periods of geological time; unimaginable ages stretching back one after the other. Different stones were laid down during these ages – slates, limestones, granites, marbles, coals, minerals, sandstones and fossils – each undergoing different geological processes. We try to understand these ages, and talk about them, by the names we give them.’
