John Nash
John studied brush lettering at City and Guilds of London Art School and calligraphy with Ann Camp at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute, he received the diploma in Advanced Calligraphy from Digby Stuart College, Roehampton. From 1985 to 1999, he was tutor in calligraphy and lettering at Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute. John has conducted workshops in England, Belgium and the US and was author, with Gerald Fleuss, of Practical Calligraphy.
He is a fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators (chairman 1991-1993), the Art Workers’ Guild, the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and a member of Letter Exchange. Since 1985, John has mainly been involved in inscriptional letter carving and worked with Pieter Boudens in Belgium, Tom Perkins in England and John Benson in the US as well as collaborating with Ian Hamilton Finlay. Past clients include Westminster Abbey, Harvard University, Yale University, Glaziers’ and Fishmongers’ Halls, Sir John Soane’s Museum, Rhodes House (Oxford), and many others.
