Welsh Slate
The stone is a discarded headstone blank, from a scrapheap in a Welsh quarry. The mason’s initials are carved on the back.
‘I’ve always been interested in giving old objects another use. I’d had this piece of slate for years and wanted to bring out the link between past and present. Stone carving takes a long time, and stone itself endures in time. So I chose words that convey the idea of continuation and carved them in a modern typeface, contrasting with the old and worn stone.’
