Pebble for Nicholas Heiney by
John das Gupta

Porphyry

The collected poetry and journals of Nicholas Heiney can be found in ‘The Silence at the Song’s End’. The book was compiled by his parents and former tutor at Oxford, as a testament to Nicholas’s unique life, talent and sensibility.

‘I carved the ‘pebble’ in porphyry, a material with timeless appeal, that came from an Italian riverbed. It looks as if it has been transformed by the passage of time into the familiar pebble shape. Nicholas’s words are deeply cut into the polished curve.’
